This conference gathers academics, researchers, journalists and policy makers to discuss the impact of the Al-Jazeera channel on international journalism practice. In a world saturated with information outlets yet information poor, Al-Jazeera satellite TV poses a challenging alternative to the western global broadcasters. Competition has become rife since the coverage of 11^th September tragic events, the war in Afghanistan, the Palestinian/Israeli conflict and the War on Iraq have been seen from an alternative perspective. So challenging the coverage of Al-Jazeera has been that it angered politicians and others from across the globe. The latest has been the claimed attempt by the American government to silence the channel by flattening its headquarters in Qatar.
