1-Conferences and symposia:
CAMMRO organises conferences about various media and communication issues in the Arab and Muslim world. Of the issues which will be covered:
- Globalisation and its effects on local cultures.
- Arab media and the challenge to global news networks.
- Communication and development in the Arab and Muslim world.
- Western Media Coverage of the Muslim world.
- Media and the Construction of public opinion in the Arab world.
- The impact of satellite TV on the social and political changes in the Arab and Muslim World
- Mapping the Al-Jazeera Effect
2- Research Projects:
Through its research team and in association with other academic institutions CAMMRO will be conducting various research projects which fit in with its aims. Some of the research projects sought to be implemented are as follows:
- Media and development in the Arab and Muslim world
- Satellite TV and social change in the Arab and Muslim world.
- Media portrayal of Arabs and Islam
- Media coverage of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict
- Media at war: the ethics of reporting the world: a comparative study
3- PhD theses annual prize:
The Centre offers an annual prize to the best thesis related to Arab or Muslim media research. The thesis has to be in one of the following three languages: Arabic, English or French. The prize will be judged by a committee drawn from the centre’s advisory board. More information can be provided by contacting the centre.
4- Doctoral Students Symposia:
An annual gathering which brings together research students working on Arab and Muslim media related topics. Students will find it beneficial to present their research findings in front of other research students, and network with other academics of interest in their fields.
The next Doctoral symposium will be in April 2007. Research students working on topics related to Arab and Muslim media are encouraged to submit an abstract about their area of research. The deadline to receive abstracts of about 500 words is 15 March 2007.
